Security

Online Banking is very secure. This may be contrary to some things you’ve seen or read about Internet Banking, but it’s true. To help explain why Online Banking is secure, let’s look at how it works. Online Banking security is ensured by the use of multiple security measures that work together to create a secure environment. In Online Banking, financial information is exchanged between your computer and the bank’s computers using the Internet. Let’s take a quick look at the security measures at each stop along the way.

Security At Your Computer
Good security starts at home, in the office, or wherever you use Online Banking. Security at your computer includes making sure no one uses or has access to the computer without your permission. Passwords should not be selected from obvious clues like the names of your children, pets or a sports hero.

Securing Data As It Travels Across “The Net”
Online Banking is a very secure way to handle your banking transactions. Your web browser must be utilizing 128-bit encryption capability to prevent anyone from “eavesdropping” on your data as it travels between you and the bank. When you log on to CountryBank@Home the computer asks your web browser software if it can communicate using a 128-bit encryption key. Behind the scenes, and in a matter of milliseconds, your computer and the computers at the bank randomly pick a number that will serve as the “key” during your brief time online.

As a user, you don’t have to do a thing, except make sure you have a version of a web browser that can participate in this process. This type of security is called SSL (which stands for Secure Sockets Layer). It is based on the fact that the pool of possible numbers that can be selected for use during a 128-bit session is very large; so large that it is practically impossible to guess the number (key) used when scrambling and unscrambling data as it passes between you and Country Bank for Savings.

Security At Country Bank for Savings
At Country Bank for Savings we employ the latest security tools to protect your data on all of our computers, including those used in Online Banking. Once your information reaches the bank via the Internet, it passes through firewalls. A firewall is a computer that acts as a security guard for Internet traffic.

System Requirements
CountryBank@Home can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and a secure web browser such as Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. If your computer operates with Microsoft® Windows® 95 or higher; or Apple® Macintosh® 7.0 or higher, you probably have all the software that is required.
