Country Bank continually prides itself on giving back within the communities they serve, each and every day. This year, however, during National Day of Giving on December 3rd they have committed to “walk the walk” for one day across the region – from Springfield to Worcester! Assembled with a team of its staff, business partners, board members and corporators they will be participating in events throughout the area that will enrich and impact the lives of those that need it most.
The day will begin in partnership with the National Coalition of the Homeless where 50 beds for 50 children in Springfield will be constructed at the Mass Mutual Center. Back at Country Bank’s corporate office in Ware, staff members will partner with the USO to assemble 75 Veterans Packages for the brave men and women of our country. During the afternoon team members, in partnership with Provision Ministries, will head to the eastern part of the region at the DCU Center to assemble 250 backpacks for the homeless in Worcester. To round out the season of giving, all Country Bank branch locations will be collecting new winter hats, scarves and mittens from December 2nd through December 21st; all winter items collected will be donated to local shelters and organizations throughout the communities.
National Day of Giving (Giving Tuesday) takes place the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. On this day everyone is encouraged to come together for one common purpose, to celebrate generosity and to give back to their communities and those less fortunate. Community support has been part of Country Bank’s mission since its inception in 1850. During this season of giving, they look to continue in supporting organizations whose missions are similar — helping friends and neighbors in area communities; after all, it’s the reason for the season.
The Country Bank Ca$h Cab will be coming to a branch near you…don’t miss it!

Country Bank recently held its annual Staff Recognition event with an evening filled with comradery, great food, games and entertainment. During this event, fellow staff members came together to celebrate, not only their on-going daily contributions to the organization, but also to recognize the recipient of the President’s Platinum Award.
Country Bank believes in continually fostering an environment of appreciation for its staff and customers. The “CB Shines” Program encourages staff members to be on the look-out for co-workers that embody the Bank’s established corporate values of Integrity, Service, Teamwork, Excellence and Prosperity; also known as the Bank’s “iStep” values. Within this program, an employee can receive different levels of recognition: Silver Spotlight (awarded anytime), Gold Star (awarded quarterly) and the President’s Platinum (awarded annually).
“The staff at Country Bank contributes to the Bank’s success in so many ways throughout the year and we are delighted to celebrate their contributions at our annual staff outing. I was pleased to award this year’s President’s Platinum award to Matt Croft, IT Solutions Architect. Matt embodies the Bank’s values and its mission; Matt was nominated by two co-workers who recognized the contributions that Matt makes to the organization, his co-workers and our customers on a daily basis. Our staff members are second to none”, stated Paul Scully, President and CEO of Country Bank.
From his nominees – “Matt shares his knowledge and continually collaborates with teammates by asking for their opinions and different viewpoints to solve problems. He analyzes situations and if he sees that someone has a heavy workload to meet a deadline, he pitches in to lend a hand to hit the target date. He follows up with appreciation and sincere gratitude towards others for their efforts.”
“I was very surprised and honored to receive the President’s Platinum award. I’m truly grateful for the recognition and being nominated by my co-workers. Even more so, I’m humbled by the overwhelming support of my co-workers in receiving this award. It really speaks to the sense of community at the Bank and the people that work here” stated Matt Croft.

A little over a year ago, two Country Bank staff members recognized a need for a safe place for children to play within their community. Armed with a desire to create a long-lasting impact for current and future children of Ware, they presented a proposal to the Bank’s Senior Management Team to purchase unconstructed, secure playground equipment and invite members of the Bank’s staff to participate in the construction.
On Tuesday, July 30th, in 90 degree temperatures, a team of 12 Country Bank staff members spent the day building the playground with assistance from the Park’s Department. The day started for the Country Bank team around 8 a.m. and was completed just before 3 p.m. Children and adults were seen curiously watching and eagerly anticipating the final product in which children have already been playing on! A live video stream was broadcasted during the build on the Bank’s Facebook page where an outpouring of comments are displayed by appreciative community members.
The two staff members, Eileen Chevrette and Dawn Piechota, lead this initiative from conception to completion. “Finding the right partner for the equipment that we had our heart set on was a job in and of itself; it took a little longer than expected to have the bulldozer parts made” stated Dawn Piechota. “However, our team of builders was committed to making this happen for the kids. It truly was awesome to be a part of something so special for our community here in Ware.
