Business Spotlight: Ludlow Tennis Club – Building Community Through Sport with Country Bank by Their Side
July 24, 2025– Nestled in the heart of Ludlow, Massachusetts, Ludlow Tennis Club has been a cornerstone of racquet sports and community engagement since 1989. As a non-profit organization, the club is driven not by profit, but by passion—offering a welcoming and affordable space for tennis and pickleball enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
Under the leadership of General Manager Chris McGrath, who also serves on the board of directors, the club has seen remarkable growth—especially with the recent surge in pickleball’s popularity. With over 450 members spanning both tennis and pickleball, the club has become a hub for not just competition, but connection.
“We’re more than just a sports facility—we’re a social club, a place to belong,” says McGrath. Members enjoy discounted court rates, instruction, open court time, and a vibrant calendar of USTA league matches, college events, and high school tournaments. The club also features eight tennis courts and eight pickleball courts, open year-round thanks to indoor facilities.
Chris’s journey with the club is a testament to its community spirit. “I started as a member and quickly made close friends. It became my second home,” he shares. After joining the board of directors in 2023, he took on the General Manager role in 2024, blending his passion for the sport with a professional background in business.
What makes Ludlow Tennis Club truly unique is its non-profit status, setting it apart from the limited number of tennis clubs in Western MA. “There’s no owner to profit—we’re here to serve. That means lower costs and greater access for the community,” McGrath explains.
Their secret to success? “Listen to your customers,” says McGrath. “Create the environment they’re looking for, provide excellent customer service, and they will come.”
A key partner in Ludlow Tennis Club’s journey has been Country Bank, which has supported the organization’s financial needs every step of the way. “Country Bank has been incredible,” says McGrath. “They understand our goals as a nonprofit, and they’ve guided us through investments and financial planning. Their team has always met our needs with thoughtful advice and unwavering support.”
Through dedication, community focus, and the right banking partner, Ludlow Tennis Club continues to thrive—proving that when passion meets purpose, great things happen.
