Most Valuable Teachers
Country Bank, in partnership with The WooSox Foundation, would like to recognize the amazing teachers who go above and beyond with a “Most Valuable Teacher” (MVT) Award.
Students throughout the region can nominate their teachers, who if selected will receive a $100 gift card from Country Bank, a special award and they will also be recognized at their schools with a special visit from the WooSox mascot Smiley Ball and Country Bank’s mascot Buck. Additionally, both the teacher and nominating student will receive four tickets to a WooSox game during the 2025 season along with other prizes.
Please help us pay tribute to the meaningful contributions teachers make to the social, emotional, and intellectual development of their students by nominating a teacher to be awarded MVT during the months of September through June.

September 2024 – Vicky Whitten
Tantasqua Regional Senior High School
Ms. Whitten is a new teacher for Tantasqua’s Business Technology vocational program this year, and after years of being in between teachers and not having any real leadership in the shop, she’s stepped up to make a positive impact on not only the program as a whole, but for each individual student who comes through the classroom.

October 2024 – Meaghan Dupuis
Bryn Mawr College
Ms. Dupuis is the special ed aid that our daughter Allie , who has Autism, has had through Kindergarten, summer school as well as first grade so far. She has helped our daughter so much in terms of social skill, learning , day to day activities in school, communication with us about several ideas and progress with Allie.

November 2024 – Emily Ahearn
Our Lady of the Angels School
Mrs. Ahearn came into the 2023-2024 school year as a new teacher to OLA. Within the first week of school, Emily spent the time getting to know each student individually and identifying areas of need for them.

December 2024 – Linda Simonds
Whitin Intermediate School
Mrs. Simonds has been teaching midale school for 30 years. When you say her name in public in Uxbridge, you will hear from multiple parents who rave about how she has been instrumental in improving their child’s academic achievement as well their social and emotional growth.

January 2025 – Stephanie Fernandes
Ludlow High School
Mrs. Fernandes always went above and beyond for her students. Her classroom was more than a place for learning; it was a welcoming space. If a student was feeling down or needed a quiet place, her door was always open. She allowed us to eat lunch there and offered a space to gather during free periods. It was never just about academics with her—it was about making sure her students felt valued and heard.

February 2025 – Rachel Garabedian
Norrback Elementary
We met Ms. G. in 2020 and our first introduction to her was virtual. It was a very intense time for everyone, but this time was particularly challenging for students who have special needs and require special services to learn and progress in school.

March 2025 – Kristi Bliss
Ruggles Lane Elementary
Kristi Bliss is always going above and beyond for her students. She has been dealt with some difficult things this year and her students were always her number one priority. She always makes sure that her students are learning in a fun and educational way.

April 2025 – Lori Duff and Billie Moberg
West Brookfield Elementary School
Throughout the school year, Billie and Lori invest not just their time, but their hearts into helping each child succeed and feel supported. One of the most memorable examples of their commitment was their role in preparing students for the much-anticipated field trip to Maine, a week-long experience away from home. For many students, including my daughter Brynn, this was the first time being away from their families. Billie and Lori were instrumental in guiding the students (and parents!) through the transition. Their kindness, patience, and encouragement made what could have been an anxious time into a thrilling and positive milestone that Brynn will remember forever.

May 2025 – Joelle Khoury
Tantasqua Regional Jr High School
Mrs. Khoury is an amazing teacher! She never fails to make us laugh! She goes above and beyond to make math fun to learn even though it’s a difficult subject. She is always willing to help us in anyway. I wish all teachers were all amazing as her!

June 2025 – William Phalen
East Longmeadow Highschool
From the first day of my senior year, when I sat in Mr.Phelan’s class for the first time, everything felt odd. He was the only teacher I had ever heard who seemed completely uninterested with whether or not you did well in his class. It wasn’t that he didn’t want you to do well but seemed to truly feel any shortcoming was a result of your poor planning. I tried to shake this off as him communicating to us that it was an AP class and we were seniors so the onus was on us to take charge of our education.
