Walk Of Champions

Date:
Location: Quabbin Reservoir - Route 9
people walking

The 2018 Walk of Champions is set for Sunday, May 6. Founded by John O’Neill, the walk has served as a tribute to the compassionate care his mother received at the Baystate Regional Cancer Program in Ware during her cancer journey. Over the years the walk has grown into a collection of teams and individuals each walking for their own reason. There are friends and family members celebrating victory over cancer. Others are encouraging their loved ones in their personal fight over cancer, while others walk in memory of those who have lost their battle with cancer.

The Walk of Champions embodies the importance of joining together for a greater good walking in honor and in memory of family, friends and loved ones.

•8:30 am REGISTRATION / CHECK-IN
•9:15 am SURVIVOR PHOTO
•9:40 am STAGE PROGRAM & MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!
•10:00 am WALK STEPS OFF…….RAIN or SHINE! (but it’s definitely going to be sunny and dry!)

The Walk route is 1.5 miles long and participants walk as many times around as they wish amidst the beautiful scenery around Goodnough Dike at the Quabbin Reservoir!

The funds allocated to the Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane benefit patient’s cared for there and have been used in many ways including family support counseling, educational outreach, pastoral care, support with medications, and state-of-the art equipment purchases. Most recently, the funds are being used for the expansion of the oncology unit to include two new infusion bays, two new exam rooms and a centralized medication room. In addition, the patient reception and check out area will be redesigned to increase patient privacy. The expansion is expected to be completed this fall.
